Shirt Tuning is Slovakia's destination for textiles with your own print — t-shirts, polos and hoodies from brands like Stanley/Stella, personalised through an on-site design tool. The store runs Magento 2, and it came to us with the classic Magento complaint: a Luma theme dragging every page down. We converted the storefront to Hyvä, optimised its imagery, and integrated the ShirtPlatform design API that powers the personalisation itself.

The Challenge: A Configurator Store on a Legacy Theme
Print-on-demand commerce is interaction-heavy by nature — shoppers browse garments, pick colours and sizes, then design their print. Luma's RequireJS/Knockout stack made every one of those steps heavier than it needed to be:
- Slow first paint on category pages a customer reaches from a Google search for custom printing
- Heavy product imagery — garment photos in every colourway, unoptimised
- A third-party design platform (ShirtPlatform) that had to plug into product pages without doubling the payload
What We Did
The Luma-to-Hyvä Conversion
We rebuilt the theme layer on Hyvä — Tailwind CSS styling, Alpine.js behaviour — while the catalogue, pricing and checkout logic stayed untouched. This is the surgical version of a replatform: the Magento engine keeps running; only the front end is exchanged for one an order of magnitude lighter. Conversions like this are the fastest route to the Core Web Vitals gains we chase in every page speed engagement.

Image Optimisation at Catalogue Scale
A garment store multiplies photography: every product exists in a dozen colourways. We rebuilt the image pipeline — modern formats, responsive sizes, lazy loading below the fold — so the catalogue's biggest asset stopped being its biggest liability.
The ShirtPlatform API Integration
The personalisation flow runs on the ShirtPlatform design service. We integrated its API into the product journey so a shopper moves from garment to design tool and back to cart without friction — third-party capability, first-party experience. Integration work like this sits at the heart of our PHP development practice.

The Technology Stack
- Magento 2 — catalogue, variant and checkout logic, untouched by the conversion
- Hyvä theme — Tailwind + Alpine.js front end replacing Luma
- Optimised image pipeline — modern formats and responsive delivery for colourway-heavy photography
- ShirtPlatform API — the print-design tool integrated into the purchase flow
For retail stores that are staying on Magento, the Luma-to-Hyvä conversion is the highest-leverage engagement we offer: weeks of work, not months, and the difference is visible on the first phone you test.
Stuck on a Slow Luma Theme?
If your Magento store still ships Luma's JavaScript to every visitor, a Hyvä conversion is probably the best value engineering you can buy this year. Talk to our team — we'll scope your conversion honestly within a business day.
