GadgetParts is Australia's leading wholesale supplier of phone, tablet and laptop parts — the screens, batteries and chargers that repair shops across the country fit every day. We migrated the store to Magento 2, built a custom theme around its unforgiving catalogue, and provide the ongoing engineering that keeps a trade business trading. It is Magento development in its most operational form.

The Challenge: Fitment Is Everything
Selling parts is nothing like selling products. Nobody browses for a screen — they need the screen for a Lenovo Yoga 720 12-inch, and shipping the wrong one costs a repair shop a customer. The catalogue architecture carries the whole business:
- Deep fitment trees — device → model → part type → specification, thousands of category nodes deep
- Trade accounts — wholesale customers log in for their pricing tiers and order history
- High-frequency reordering — repair shops buy weekly; friction in reorder flows is lost revenue
- Two markets, one operation — Australia and New Zealand run as separate storefronts on shared stock
What We Built
Migration to Magento 2 With a Custom Theme
We moved the store onto Magento 2 and built a custom theme shaped by how trade buyers actually shop: dense category listings, specification-first product pages and search that respects part numbers. Magento's layered navigation carries the fitment tree natively — the reason it remains our default recommendation for serious B2B commerce.

The ANZ Expansion: One Magento, Two Countries
When the business expanded across the Tasman, we didn't build a second website — we added a New Zealand store view on the same Magento instance. gadgetparts.co.nz runs its own domain, currency and messaging while sharing the catalogue, stock and admin with the Australian mothership. One team, one stock position, two markets.

The Technology Stack
- Magento 2 — layered navigation and category architecture deep enough for device fitment
- Custom theme — trade-buyer UX: dense listings, part-number search, quick reorder
- Multi-store setup — .com.au and .co.nz storefronts on one instance and one stock pool
- Ongoing maintenance — upgrades, patches and catalogue engineering as the range grows
In our experience, wholesale stores fail on information architecture years before they fail on design. Getting the fitment tree right — and keeping it right at retail scale — is the unglamorous work that makes a parts business searchable, and it's where a long-term engineering partner earns their keep.
Running a Trade Catalogue That's Outgrown Its Store?
If your wholesale customers phone in orders because the website can't find the part, that's a catalogue-architecture problem — and it's fixable. Talk to our engineering team about B2B Magento builds and migrations; we'll reply within a business day.
